Freemium Technology Services co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Floyd Kelley III has been a computer repair technician and network administrator since 1998—receiving his CompTIA A+ in 2000 and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) the same year.
In the 12 years that Floyd has been in the computer industry, he has worked both as a corporate managed information services leader and as a private consultant, seeing the IT world from behind the desk and in front of it. He has also had the opportunity to manage IT from the not-for-profit angle, which presents it’s own challenges in regards to solutions and funding.
From credit consolidation, to cosmetic surgery, real estate, legal, and health rehabilitation, no industry has been left untouched when it comes to his experience. He’s helped small, home-based businesses that needed to get up-and-running, to established companies that needed a third opinion.
Certified in Microsoft products, but an avid Apple Mac user, gives Floyd an advantage to those businesses that utilize this alternative operating system. Currently, his computer is an Apple MacBook Pro running VMWare Fusion 3 to which he has virtualized the latest version of Microsoft Windows 7 Professional.
When he’s not fixing systems or monitoring network performance, Floyd enjoys learning about alternative operating systems, such as BSD and Linux, as well as security-based distributions such as BackTrack.
Floyd has also served as a radio and nightclub DJ since 1994, specializing in underground alternative music. He is a fan of lomography and an avid collector of lo-fi analog toy cameras such as the Holga 120n, Diana F+, and Blackbird, fly twin-reflex plastic camera. Some of his pictures are displayed periodically on freemiumtech.com.
Currently residing in Lake Worth, Florida, with his lovely wife and two children, the Kelley family enjoys spending time together: they like watching movies and have a passion for learning strange and bizarre facts about animals, as well as parasitic creatures. The most common phrase issued in the home is the precursor, “Did you know?”
At this time, the websites most frequented in the household consists of: LEGO, Webkinz, Brain Pickings, and Mental Floss.
